The Typical Appraisal is an Abject Failure

The trial of the Fort Hood gunman, Nidal Hasan, is helping confirm the not only the failures of our Government to protect our soldiers but it is helping to confirm what most managers and employees already know, the typical performance appraisal is an abject failure.

Hasan, acting as his own attorney, cross-examined retired and  former boss Lt. Col Ben Kirk Phillips,  about the last performance appraisal he conducted with the murderer Hasan.  Phillips acknowledged that his officer evaluation report had graded Hasan as “outstanding.”  How can we trust a process that rates a murderer “outstanding?”  We can’t.   We must Stop the Leadership Malpractice NOW!
